Winter birds
Some of the most eye-catching birds in the winter are the numerous swans resting around the fjords. In particular, large flocks of bewick's swans and whooper swans can be observed on seaside meadows and cultivated fields, resting and feeding in preparation for their return to the breeding grounds in Siberia and Scandinavia. On the same fields you can often – if you look closely - spot snow buntings and shore larks hunting for edible seeds. Towards the end of winter, you can watch the swans dancing around with their necks stretched out while their fascinating call echoes around the winter landscape. It is a fantastic sight that generates a warm feeling and adds a touch of delight to a cold winter day.
